CISA Orders Removal of Unsupported Edge Devices

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a directive to Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies to enhance asset lifecycle management for edge network devices. The primary goal of this directive is to remove devices that no longer receive security updates from their original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) within the next 12 to 18 months.

This move is aimed at reducing technical debt and minimizing the risk of cyber attacks on federal networks. By removing outdated and unsupported devices, agencies can significantly lower the vulnerability of their networks to cyber threats.

  • Strengthen asset lifecycle management for edge network devices
  • Remove devices no longer receiving security updates from OEMs
  • Reduce technical debt and minimize federal network risk

The removal of unsupported edge devices is a critical step in securing federal networks. By taking proactive measures to address potential vulnerabilities, agencies can protect sensitive information and prevent cyber attacks.

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and a few minutes of cyber-incident to ruin it.
